Japanese Hobbit Edition

1997 edition illustrated by Ryuichi Terashima, published in 2 books by Iwanami Shoten.

These illustrations first appeared in the 1965 edition of "Hobbit No Boken". Douglas Anderson in the preface of his "Annotated Hobbit", particulary mention these drawings for their excellence. For many of them, the artist used a Tolkien (or Pauline Baynes, see this one) paintings as a starting point of his own interpretation. Ces illustrations ont été publiées pour la première fois dans l'édition de 1965 de "Hobbit No Boken". Dans la préface de son "Annotated Hobbit", Douglas Anderson mentionne particulièrement ces dessins pour leur excellence.
